We’ve Forgotten How to Be in the Same Room. There’s a version of socialising that looks great on paper. You follow each other, you like each other’s posts, you send the occasional meme at 11pm. You’re connected. And yet — when was the last time you were actually in a room with people, with nowhere to be, just… present?
It’s a weird thing to admit, but for a lot of us, that’s become rare.
We’re busier than ever, or at least we feel like it. Plans get made and unmade. Group chats substitute for group hangs. And somewhere along the way, the casual, unplanned, just show up kind of gathering got quietly phased out of adult life. Which is a shame. Because those are usually the best ones.
Not the perfectly curated dinner parties. Not the obligatory work drinks. The ones where you don’t really know everyone, the music is a little unexpected, and the night goes longer than you planned because no one really wants to leave. Those evenings have a texture to them. They leave something behind.
The problem isn’t that people don’t want to gather — it’s that no one’s making it easy. Between the logistics, the planning paralysis, and the sheer number of options that somehow result in doing nothing, most people default to staying home. And that’s exactly the gap we started Common Room to fill.
We create events that take the friction out of showing up. Thoughtfully put together experiences — across different cities, different formats, different crowds — that give people a reason to leave the house and actually be somewhere together.
No dress code for your personality. No single type of person, music, or vibe. Just a common room — in the oldest sense of the phrase. A place where people land, loosen up, and let the night do its thing.
Because the moments we tend to remember most? They weren’t streamed. They weren’t scheduled three weeks in advance. They happened in a room, with other people, when something just clicked. We think that’s worth making more of.
Got an idea for an event — or a space that’s just waiting to come alive? We’d love to hear from you. Whether you have a half-baked concept or a full venue ready to go, let’s talk. Common Room is always open to new rooms.
